We are all familiar with Discover Channel’s Shark Week that engages viewers with fascinating videos of shark stories. For obvious reasons sharks are intriguing yet scary animals. But did you know sharks only kill about 10 people per year? Contrast that to the mosquito. This tiny 3 mm insect kills approximately 725,000 people a year mostly in third world countries by transmitting deadly diseases like malaria. So Bill Gates thought that mosquitoes need a “week” too! April 28-May 4 is “Mosquito Week,” and all week long Bill Gates is posting informational and fascinating stories, videos and news about the deadly mosquito on his blog GatesNotes.com. Mosquito Squad of Greater St. Louis commends Bill Gates and his charity work that includes trying to eradicate and bring awareness to the devastating sicknesses that mosquitoes carry. Because the bite of a mosquito is a lot more dangerous than the bite of a shark.
